Eduard Chenette is a Senior Environmental Engineer with the Maine CDC, where he plays a pivotal role in safeguarding Maine's drinking water. Leading a dedicated engineering team, he expertly manages the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program, overseeing approximately $50 million in annual funding. His work involves everything from tracking grant requirements and approving payments to providing essential technical assistance to public water systems. Eduard is a Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in Maine, driven by a deep passion for leveraging environmental science and engineering to our enhance quality of life and protect our planet.
Before joining the Maine CDC, Eduard honed his skills over nearly six years as an environmental engineer with global consulting powerhouses like WSP, Wood, and Amec Foster Wheeler. During this time, he tackled diverse projects, including complex Superfund sites across the United States. This experience equipped him with a wide range of expertise, from engineering design and regulatory support to project management, cost estimating, and cybersecurity improvements. His contributions were recognized by his peers, who selected him as a Maine State Director for the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).
Beyond his engineering career, Eduard is a dedicated educator and community leader. He serves as an adjunct professor at the University of New England, where he inspires future scientific leaders and medical professionals by teaching Physics. His academic reach also extends to various subjects, including Geology, Environmental Issues, and Environmental Engineering.
Eduard's commitment to his community is evident in his extensive public service. Appointed by the Mayor of Saco, he has served on both the Saco Conservation Commission (as co-chair, focusing on natural resource preservation and park accessibility) and the Saco River Corridor Commission, where he helped to regulate land and water use to protect the region's unique natural resources. He also contributed to the City of Saco Coastal Resiliency Ad Hoc Committee, collaborating with the EPA on critical coastal resilience initiatives.
Eduard annually provides college scholarships to local high school students as vice president of his family’s nonprofit scholarship foundation. His dedication to community involvement was recognized in 2016 when he received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award from President Barack Obama.
Eduard's impressive academic background includes a Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering from Texas A&M University, and both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Physics earned in Russia. He is fluent in English and Russian.
